I was curious about this so I pointed my tracks back to mysql. On my system (mysql 5.0.27) if the database is loaded using rake db:migrate, the xml contains <hide type=\"boolean\">false</hide>. If the database is loaded using rake db:schema:load, it contains <hide type="integer">0<\/hide>. Seems a bit leaky :/

If it is the case that the xml api output differs between database types, then that would seem to be an important problem to solve, because the model's "hidden" attribute is boolean and it should look that way to the outside world, regardless of how the database represents it.
