I think Assembla is quite good, but time will tell, I guess. If you

Now for the less cheefull part of my message ;) I'm about to open a
ticket for a bug I noticed this morning. Having to open an account
on a bug tracker is a normal process. But then, having to send an
email to someone, and wait to be granted the right to create
tickets, is a major drawback in my opinion.
I'm afraid this process will prevent some people from ever creating
or commenting a ticket, because it takes to much time and too many
steps. Is there any way you could simplify the registration process
on Assembla?
I do appreciate that this part of the signup process is a bit of a
pain (though much, much easier than the very manual, longwinded
process that we used to have to use with Trac.
I don't think that there's anything I can do to shortcut the
registration process as it is, though I might post a request in their
forum to suggest that it would be good to allow users to request to be
added to a particular team when they sign up. However, I could change
the way that permissions work in one of two ways:
1. I can set up the space so that you don't need to be logged in to
add a ticket or comment on one. That obviously has the potential to be
a bit of a spam trap (we had this problem with Trac). However, it is
fairly easy to delete tickets (though not comments, seemingly) in
Assembla. Another disadvantage of this is that if you are not logged
in when you create a ticket, your name won't be associated with it,
and you won't get notification when it changes. But is assume that
won't be a problem if you're logged in (but don't not a team member).
2. I could create a dummy 'guest' account for users to use to create
tickets, and put the credentials on the site. That's what we did for
Trac.
I'll take another look at the permissions, and see if it's possible to
only allow those who have an account, but aren't team members to
create tickets. If anyone else has more experience with Assembla than
me, do please let me know if there's some way to sort this out.
I also have a suggestion for the website: I had to click on
"Development" and then scroll to the bottom of the page in order to
find the "Reporting bugs and requesting features" information. I
think it's a bit counter-intuitive for a non-developper. Could you
please add a "Report bug" link on the front page?
