I had responded to your question about the dental codes, but I just received a message
that my note never went to the listserv. Apparently I am not on the listserv,
although I saw your question via the listserv! I'm trying to get this situation
straightened out.
In any event, here is my response to your question of about a week ago relating to
dental codes:
For years, HCPCS has included the dental codes, with permission of the ADA to replace
the first digit in the CDT with a "D." These were known as the "D" series codes.
However, with HIPAA and the publication of the Final Rule on Standards for Electronic
Transactions and Code Sets, the ADA's CDT codes are to be used to report dental
services. HCPCS will discontinue the "D" series codes.
