CPT codes are updated only once per year. The CPT book for that year, i.e. CPT 2002, is published in the fall.
The CPT Editorial Panel recently released a new category of CPT codes called Category III New Technology Codes. This limited group of codes describing new and emerging technologies which do not meet the general criteria for a regular Category I CPT code will be released bi-annually, January and July, on the AMA CPT internet site ( http://www.ama-assn.org/cpt ) and published annually in the CPT book.
