CLM05 breaks out the 3 components, but 276 does not. So the field for 276 encompasses all 3 components of CLM05.
The 276 field for bill type can be 1-30 characters long. The 3 components for CLM05 can be up to 5 characters, but normally only 3 would be used on either the 276 or 837 transaction.

The 276 IG on page 80 talks about the Institutional Bill Type Indentification and says that it refers to CLM05 in the 837.
CLM05 has sub-elements.� Which sub element is the IG referring to?
The example in the 276 lists REF*BLT*111~
111 is three bytes, the subelements in CLM05 can only be 1 or 2 bytes long.
