Let me rephrase.
Segment REF*FJ carries the Line Item Control
Number. I believe this number is rarely used, at least I have never seen
it on a claim. I thought it would be easy to put instead in there the Line
Number, the one that comes with the LX Segment on the 837.
This way an inquiry can reference a certain
line. Right now when I receive a status inquiry on a line, I can only find
the line by comparing procedure code and charge and date, line by line,
until I have a match. Or if the claimline had the elusive Line Item Control
Number.
It would be easier to inquire about Line 3 for
example. Then I don't need to make a database search line by line, I can go
straight to line 3 and get the status.
Hope I am more clear now.
