For those monitoring/participating in this thread...

I created one of my "Viewers" for the 834 and haven't been able to find any
test files that include any 2100 series loops except 2100A(Member Name) or
2310 loops.

Could I get anyone who has files with this kind of information files to look
at some of them with the viewer and let me know what you see.
Do the loop headers display correctly?

Anyone who wants a copy is welcome to download one at:
www.cal.net/mmorri/bin/270_ANSI_File_Viewer.exe (173k download)

Thanks in advance,

Subject: Re: Purpose of LX Segment - 834

This is actually a X12 syntax issue. Because Loop 2310 (Provider
Information) was intended to start with the NM1 segment (Provider Name), the
developers of the transaction set needed a way to prevent a collision
between the optional NM1 in loop 2310 (position 320 of the 834 transaction
set) and the optional NM1 which starts loop 2100 (position 030 of the 834
transaction set). The LX segment achieves this purpose, segregating the
subordinate NM1 in Loop 2310. LX01 is simply a counter iterating the repeats
of Loop 2310; it is a required data element of the LX segment. It does not
have an inherent meaning in the context of the 834 implementation guide
adopted for use under HIPAA.

When I mention "optional" in the above paragraph note that I am referring to
the X12 standards.
