Question for the group. Looking at page 63 of the 820 IG (004010X061), I'm trying to figure out the coding of the N103. There seems to be some conflicting information.
First off, there appears to be a box that indiates code 65 will be used when the National Employer Identification scheme is up and running. The last sentence in that gray box reads "Until that time, code FI is the alternate HIPAA compliant identifier." There follows a list of seven codes that are defined for N103 including 1, 9, 24, 75, EQ, FI and PI. So, uh, what's the deal? If FI is the alternate "HIPAA compliant" value, what are the others? Since they're also listed in the HIPAA IG, aren't the also "HIPAA compliant?"
