Diana, Unfortunately the standards are developed by the volunteers who can make it to the X12 meetings. With all the various state budget issues it is going to make it difficult for people representing Medicaid programs to attend standards meetings and present their issues.

We are considering the use of segments like the K3 in the 837 to store these data elements, until such time as they can be included in a future release of the implementation guides. Diana DeWeese Illinois Dept of Human Services >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 09/30/02 10:37AM >>> All: An issue has been raised due to a NY provision that health plans need to have the effective from and through dates captured for members of small employer groups. This is for prior insurance coverage. The 834 IG does not require this data to be captured. I would say that the HIPAA rule trumps whatever the states mandate. However, for any transaction, would a state statute that requires data outside of the HIPAA-designated fields overrule the federal mandate? Thank you in advance for your assistance!
