I'm not against this.
But I'm concerned that this would damage 1.1.0 significantly since directory
mode is used in quite few but critical places, like dvd::rip IIRC.
Sincerely speaking, I would really like to focus on NMS only (mainly) in
order
to complete 1.1.0, but I'm afraid that we can't just drop some other
problematic/controversial/legacy/buggy
pieces of code like directory mode, doing so we'll introduce too much
(user-visible) regressions :\
