I never noticed that transcode had a preview option before.  Anyway, I tried it,
and the results are inconclusive.  The preview window shows three miniature
greyscale pictures of the video.  Underneath each greyscale picture there are
four more greyscale pictures with differing brightness/contrast levels.  This
takes up the top half of the preview window.  The bottom half is just black.

Do you know what this implies?
