There are some possibilities:
- bug in preview filter (less probable)
- one or more bug somewhere in import layer
- bad (broken) video source
- wrong import options

Your source clip plays fine in mplayer/xine/totem/kaffeine/whatelse?

Encoding a short clip (-c 0-251) using another export module (-y ffmpeg -F
mpeg4) produces something good?

That's just to understand if the problem is in quicktime module, parameters
or something else.
