I have some dv camera video that looks pretty good on a tv screen. I'm using a Sony DSR-11 to get the video from the tape into linux using dvgrab. I'm using the 'raw' format. I've started trying to use transcode to create a xvid file. That works fine, but I'm not able to get the video to look as nice as it does on the TV. Even the raw .dv file shows the problem. On the computer (LCD screen) the picture looks too bright and muddy or "washed out". I've been trying to find a way to get the bright colors back and more contrast using some filter in transcode but so far I haven't been able to find anything that works well. I tried '-J al 1' and that may have helped a little.
Why does the raw video from a dv camera look so bad on a computer monitor? thanks, Bob
