Great to see you on the list.  Have you had a look at the init scripts
here:
http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootleadmin#service_script

It seems that our example ones for Debian based distros simply redirect
output from PootleServer.  These are the ones that we are using on
pootle.wordforge.org

Seems that -o indeed has a problem.
