Hi list New versions of the Translate toolkit and of Pootle were released yesterday. The announcement for the toolkit is in a separate mail on the translate-devel list (and the translate-announce list).
This is a major release with several new features and improvements. Version 0.10 of the translate toolkit is needed for Pootle 0.10. Other important changes are documented on the wiki at http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootle/important_changes Notable changes include: * Improved page layout and usability in many cases. For example: * double click a translation to edit * show fancy spaces (double, start, and end of string) * Right-to-Left layout for certain languages * Language specific display settings for fonts, etc. Based on http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/l10n/displaysettings * Automatic detection of your browser's preferred language * New statistics interface with sortable table * Statistics now display for the "No goal" group * Valid XHTML and CSS * Pootle now displays comments and location identifiers from the PO file being translated * Pootle now gives a visual indication of fuzzy states * A "back" button in the translation page to allow you to return to the previous message * Pootle can display pregenerated matches from a translation memory (the new updatetm tool is used to generate this) * Pootle can display terminology matches in real time from a terminology project on the same Pootle server. We hope to have an easily downloadable and installable terminology project for many languages available (currently we use the GNOME glossaries on pootle.wordforge.org) * Improved plural handling * PO or XLIFF files can now be uploaded to update existing translations * Themed error pages * Improved POT file with more comments * Improved updating from templates (mostly due to improvements in pot2po in the toolkit) * Pootle can now commit to CVS or SVN. Not all configurations are possible, but this can be useful to people in charge or their own Pootle servers. * Enable Psyco support for Pootle. We would appreciate any feedback on this * Pootle now uses native language names in the default preference file, although we hope to have the language names translated in future. * Dynamically generated robots.txt to enable limited indexing instead of previous settings that disallowed all robots * HTML meta tags for keywords and description. The site description is used, along with some keywords. Feedback appreciated. Knows issues: * po2ts of the translate toolkit inserts extra spaces and newlines resulting in slightly wrong Qt .ts files. This could affect people who want to download in Qt .ts format. We have been running the release candidates for 0.10 for considerable time at pootle.wordforge.org and translations for many languages are already complete. Please update the pootle translations for your language. Unlike the 0.9 release series, we might be adding some new messages for 0.10.1 to allow for a few new features and error messages. The release files are available for download at https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=91920&package_id=144807 Note that there are new dependencies to run Pootle starting with version 0.9. The dependencies for running Pootle are: * The Translate toolkit version 0.10 * jToolkit 0.7.8 or later (http://translate.sourceforge.net/snapshots/ * kid 0.9 or later (http://kid.lesscode.org/) * elementtree (http://effbot.org/downloads/#elementtree) * PyLucene is optional, but helps to speed up searching. It has been confirmed that Lucene searches can have slightly different results. Lucene also allows for a special query syntax. I recommend that people test this for their purposes to determine if they want to install PyLucene. The 0.10 release series is also available in SVN under the wordforge-0-10-branch at https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/translate/src/branches/wordforge-0-10-branch/ The live documentation is available on the wiki at http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootle/index Not all new features are documented yet at the time of this release, but should hopefully documented very soon.
