I can't give you a lot of feedback, because we haven't got very far yet. ;) As usual in my community, everybody wants the work done, but nobody wants to do it. :( However, I did get the project set up, and I'm ready to assign goals. Pootle does handle big projects well, which is a crucial point for OOo. Currently, as you would know, Pootle includes Translate Toolkit [1] filters to convert OOo files to PO format. (You can do this conversion online or offline.) This makes them much easier to handle. ;) Having them converted to PO format, you can apply your compendia to them, then upload them again. For big uploads, currently it's easier to ask the admin to do the upload. (Translators can upload or download individual files.) After upload, you use the Pootle interface to create goals for the project (e.g. First stage, Help, Review, Writer), match files to those goals, and assign translators to the goals. This helps break down a big project into workable pieces and stages. The biggest advantage of Pootle, of course, is the distributed model. It means, once you have the project setup, any number of people can work on the same files, or on different files, at any time, and all the data is kept current and unique. You can now also keep it sync'd with CVS. You can use current online Pootles, run your own, and/or run your own offline Pootle for translate-a-thons locally. You can exchange files between Pootle installs. Translators who want to work offline, using their own editors, can simply download the file(s) in any format they choose, and use their normal methods. So it's extremely flexible. I would strongly recommend using Pootle for OOo. The only thing that's held me back with Vietnamese OOo has been the lack of translators, not Pootle itself.
