PyLucene helps a lot to speed up text searching. The results are an
improvement in big projects. I don't expect it to make any improvement
elsewhere. Pootle will also use psyco if it is installed, although I'm
not convinced that it will provide a big speedup. It might be worth a
try, though.

I have also found the installation to be a bit difficult, with us having
to recompile some stuff and it needing a specific version of gcc as I
recall. On our server we are currently using 1.9.1 with no issues.
