Hi list In the development versions of the translate toolkit we have been working on extending our txt2po tool to interpret basic wiki codes for mediawiki and docuwiki. This enabled us to generate POT files for the three basic pages of Pootle's users guide: http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/users/user_guide
These pages are also distributed as part of Pootle, but has until now only been in English. As these are now PO files, they should now be as easy as anything else to translate. With these PO files, we can again generate the translated wiki pages, without bothering the translators with the formatting. The only relevant wiki syntax that translators need to know is the following: [[pagename|linktext]] In this setup pagename should be left untranslated, but linktext is the text that will be displayed in the page and can be translated. We hope that this translation is the start of making Pootle even more accessible to digitally endangered language communities. For now I only enabled a few languages, but on request, I can add any language for which there is interest to translate. Currently translation is open for any registered user, but if you want to take over ownership for this translation in your language, please let us know so we can configure that appropriately. These files are now available on the WordForge Pootle server: http://pootle.wordforge.org/projects/usersguide/ Friedel ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
