I know in other projects their is often a debian directory for such
patches.  I'd be happy for that patch to reside in Subversion simply to
stimulate and help other packagers for other platforms.

Andreas is currently looking through these and applying the easy ones.
I'm leaning towards applying the Linux specific ones as the speadups are
actually very useful, but we will see.
