Hallo Jonathan

The Translate project (including Pootle) suits your three reasons very
well! If you are specifically interested in moving Pootle away from
jToolkit, I suggest you help us with these steps by perhaps some small
refactorings and isolating some of the parts that depends on that. We
have already done some of it, and in the Mozootle branch there is also a
lot of work related to this. Feel free to join us in #pootle on
irc.freenode.net if you want to discuss some ideas more interactively.

Specifically, there is some work done on authentication in the Mozootle
branch that you might want to have a look to port over to trunk. There
is similar work on storing preferences that received attention in that
branch.

There is a whole ecosystem of translation tools in our project, and I
welcome you to find a home for you here.
