Hi everyone :)

PROBLEM 1: missing strings upon PO download

My missing-strings problem is solved, although I'm not entirely sure
why. When I wrote the initial post, I had downloaded the PO version of
several files listed as 100%, from different Pootle servers (not all
running the same version of Pootle), only to find that those PO files
were not complete. In some cases, they were missing a lot of
translations. In other cases, they were missing the original strings
as well, e.g.

msgid ""
msgstr ""

These missing strings (msgstr or both) were visible not only in the
downloaded PO file, but in the PO file as viewed on Pootle (by
clicking on "PO file").

Today, I redownloaded those same files, and they are all 100% in PO
form. (I am using the same version of the same browser.)

The only explanation I can find is that the PO conversion is not live.
Is that the case? All these files were ones I downloaded immediately
upon finishing them, usually after a prolonged session of translating.
If the PO conversion is somehow delayed, that could explain why just-
finished XLIFF files aren't downloaded as complete PO files.

But that doesn't explain why msgids would be empty in some of these PO
files. As an example, here's the Decathlon/VLC/interface_GUI.po file
which I downloaded on (or a day or so before) 2008-03-01. This file
was 100% on Pootle: 1262 strings translated.

It's interesting that the modification date is several days prior to
the date I evidently completed and downloaded this file. When you open
this file, you can see why I made my original post.

I'd really like to understand why this weird discrepancy occurred
between the base XLIFF and PO-version files. I don't like it, and I
don't want it to happen again.

PROBLEM 2: duplicate strings in non-delimited PO file

If you have time, please also checkout the file Decathlon/OpenProj/
client.po. msgfmt reports:
___
l:Decathlon clytie$ msgfmt -cv -o /dev/null ../client.po
../client.po:2782: duplicate message definition...
../client.po:2778: ...this is the location of the first definition
___

and I can't find the duplicate strings. Those line numbers don't exist
in the file as downloaded, because it is one solid mass of text, with
strings not spaced out or even delimited. On the server, the PO
version looks normal. I have this same problem with one of the
Frugalware files (on their Pootle).

I even tried spacing the file out manually, but still can't find the
duplicate strings. This problem still exists: I downloaded a fresh
copy of both affected files, and checked them, while writing this
message.

Thanks for any unconfusing you can do. :)
