Jim,

I've seen many responses to your query and they seem to concentrate
on the approvals process and standards. I read your email and assumed you
were asking if a US product (modem???) will meet the Australian
requirements. If that was not the intent, just hit delete now.

I've been out of the telecom compliance testing arena for a number
of years, but my recollection is that you'll have a difficult time getting
your product through Australian compliance testing if the product was not
designed to meet the requirements up front. Since you didn't provide the
product description, I'm going to assume it's an analog telephony product.
This could be outdated info, but my recollection is that the problem areas
will be:

Return loss (complex vs. 600 ohm)
Insulation (1KV U.S. vs. 2.5KV AUS TNV to SELV)
Pulse Dialing (Pulse shape may require gyrator re-design)

There's probably more, but here's a start. Getting the spec is your
best bet.

Thx,

Joe

Subject: Australian Telco Compliance vs US Part 68

Hi everyone,

Our company is getting ready to market some of our existing Part 68
Compliant Telco products in Australia. From a quick review of the
Australian standards it looks like a lot of the signal levels and impedances
are different than Part 68.

Has anyone had any experience with getting Australian Compliance for Part 68
equipment? Are there any areas that I should pay special attention too.

Thanks,
Jim Robson
