Jay, re continuing compliance for Part 68, this requirement has been
around for almost twenty years. Exhibit G-2 of your application
describes the tests you are to perform. There are three general
scenarios. (1) You get a registration for a product but you either didn't
produce it or you made a few and stopped production. No CC tests
required. (2) You have a really hot item that you are producing over a
long period of time. In this case you pull an item and run the tests
prescribed in Exhibit G-2 of your application. (3) You make a bunch then
stop; then restart production. Each time you restart you are obligated to
do your CC test.
I run CC audits from time-to-time. Consumer items are just like ladies'
clothing; they go out of style quickly--one production run and they are
gone. Systems generally stay around for awhile and go through
evolutionary changes.
CC tests often pick up a lot of interesting problems as many old timers
can attest.
