Re: 22-May-96 Technical Presentation by TUV Rheinland

Mr. Dave Lohbeck is the TUV Rheinland Division Mgr for seminars. TUV
Rheinland seminars have been very successful, attracting over 1000
attendees each year. Three one-day seminars are offered to help
manufacturers and exporters comply with European directives, standards
and regulations. Since 1872 TUV Rheinland's has earned the enviable
reputation for efficient service through offices in over 30 countries
and 7,000 employees worldwide. Dave will present: "The CE Marking,
limiting the confusion".

It is Dave's view that there is much confusion surrounding the CE
marking and that the value of the CE marking, for selling products in
Europe, has been overstated. As examples, some manufacturers
incorrectly assume that the CE Marking is a certification and that
components with the CE Marking must be in compliance. When in reality a
CE marking on a component is of no real use for the system/product
manufacturer (except for a very few cases under the EMC Directive).
Also, the CE marking is not a mark and must not be confused with a mark
or certification issued by a EC notified body, but is rather closer to
a declaration of conformity. More illustrations will be presented and
discussed at the meeting.

If time permits Dave would like to briefly present TUV Rheinlands new
programs such as USA-NRTL, CB (pending), Japan S-Mark, Russia-Gost,
Mexico-NOM, seminars, etc.
