Subject: Australian approvals for ISDN

To all treg members,

After all the discussion on the network between Martin and myself I decided to
discuss the ISDN approval requirments with AUSTEl. The information presented
here is preliminary and very sketchy. Austel will be presenting this at the
workshop in Austrlia next week.

It is my understanding that effective July 1, 1997 that Spectrum Management and
Austel will merge and become ACA or something like that. Effective at that
time
telecom approvals, in the current form, will no longer be required. The
product
will need to be labeled? and will be subject to AUDITS. This means that the
equipment must be compliant to the appropriate standards for the network to
which it is attached. In other words if the equipment is to be connected to
Onramp it must be compliant with the new EuroISDN version and if it is
connected
to the older Australian networks such as microlink it must be compliant with
the
appliciable TS.

I was not able to get any information on laboratory accreditaion under the new
program, audit frequency or methods or how this would be enforced.

Thanks Martin for bringing some awareness to the impending changes. I will
provide more info as it becomes available, and maybe others that attend the
workshop will do likewise.

Best Regards
Bill Holz
