Let's hope that whatever the Taiwanese come up with as a solution is not some other and more insiduous barrier. When removing trade barriers, we have to keep in mind that the barriers are being raised for a reason. Unless we're careful, and deal with the reason, we may wind up replacing visible barriers with invisible barriers. Ciao, Vic ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- *** TECHNOLOGY POLICY ISSUE ALERT *** The Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced the postponement for 6 months of implementation of Taiwan's electromagnetic compatibility testing guidelines. These guidelines, which were scheduled to go into effect July 1, would impose costly, duplicative testing and certification requirements for IT equipment to be imported into Taiwan. The postponement is good news for ITI members. USTR has requested a meeting with industry to discuss the Taiwan issue and related matters. We will continue to work with U.S. trade officials to ensure that regulations related to product testing in Taiwan and other markets are transparent, nondiscriminatory, and do not impose requirements that add cost without adding value. These efforts are part of our strategy to eliminate technical barriers to trade in IT products. ===================================================================== List-Post: [email protected] Date: Thu, 12 Jun 97 10:10:46 PDT From: Frank Stucki <[email protected]> Subject: Re: Taiwan New EMC regulation went into effect in Taiwan affect initially Fax-equipment.
