Cynthia's right about the acceptability of other marks as evidence of compliance with the Directives, but you have to remember that there is NO SUBSTITUTE for CE Marking. So if you have the GS mark, you must also have CE. The technical documents which support the other marks are enough to support the CE mark for product safety issues under one of the articles of the LVD.
But be careful with the EMC Directive! If you have another mark which does not require application and full provision of the EMC harmonized standards, then you have to get a competent body to buy into it or technically speaking, your documentation is non-compliant under article 10(2) of the Directive. I recall |no differentiation between products sold in all member states versus |just in one state. | | |If you have a product that is required to meet a specific directive and |it is compliant you must mark the product as compliant. This can |be done with the CE marking or with separate approval mark for |each directive. IE under the LVD you can gain a specific approval |from a TUV etc and use their mark as showing compliance to |the LVD. | |Under the EMC directive, again you can use the CE or one of |the international EMC marks. | |Under the TTE directive, it would depend on your product type, |but most would require a CE XXX crossed hockey stick. WIth |XXX being the number of the notified body that granted approval. | |Bottom line is that you need to be complaint to the directives and |mark your product accordingly. | |Hope that helps | |Cynthia E.
