TREGGERS, I'm curious, has anyone gotten NEBS test results through a TTE Notified Body? Has anyone tried? Are the requirements similar in any degree? Do any of you think that NEBS covers at least some of the TTE NB test requirements, and if so, which ones?
I think it's notable that test results to other than the Harmonized, National, or International standards can be used under the EMC Directive if you can get a Competent Body to buy off on it. Under the LVD, article 8, I'm certain it's possible to place on the market or move freely "electrical equipment which, although not conforming with the harmonized standards referred to in article 5, or the provisions of articles 6 and 7, complies with the provisions of article 2," i.e. use other requirements as evidence of conformity in an LVD due-diligence file. Wouldn't it be nice if you could do this for TTE as well? Knowing how talented some of you are, and how rigorous some of the NEBS requirements are, it would seem appropriate to consider trying to address some of the similarities in the requirements of NBs in the EU, if there are any. Of course, you'd be taking test $$ out of their pockets, so they might not be too amenable at first. But steady pressure and logical arguments have yielded some impressive results with other Directives. Again, this may not even be possible. Not having had any direct contact or interaction with a TTE NB lately I may be entirely up the wrong tree. But it's worth considering, isn't it? I mean, you could probably save some time, money, and effort, couldn't you? Any thoughts?? Rick
