Full marks Joe. My missive had to do with trying to get the debate away from the finer points on how to build a construct that would let you pass the requirements, to a consideration of what the paying customer needs.
Ideally, you should have a tunable line interface unit that measures the line and makes the appropriate adjustments automatically. The price of such a unit can not be justified in terms of improved performance to the end user, at this time. However, we should concentrate on how to give the best possible products, not on how to beat the system and pass the the test, regardless of quality to the user. Ciao, Vic
