          Yes, the 'Q' is short for the words 'thankyou' run together.
          
          The British are reputed to say thank you a lot. A story is often
          told that it takes four 'thank you's to buy a 'bus ticket (in the
          days when a conductor took the fares once the bus was underway).
          
          Thank you - from the conductor as he approaches,
          Thank you - from the passenger proffering her fare
          Thank you - from the conductor takes money and gives ticket
          Thank you - from passenger accepts ticket.
          No other words need be said, although six 'thank you's might be
          necessary if the conductor has to give change.
