Rick,
Check out UL's listing in the Yellow Book under "Marking and Labeling
Systems" (PGDQ2). What you will find among the myriad listing of labels
on rolls will also include manufacturers that provide an assortment
of printing hardware, using UL approved inks and adhesives, that will give
you compliant labels. To quote UL: "Marking and labeling systems which
have been found suitable for additional printing by the user are identified
in the individual recognitions." For example, check out AD-Print Markings
Ltd., Austin Screen Graphics Inc., and Badger Tag & Label Corp.
Another way is to cross-check the Thomas Register for the printing
hardware with the UL Yellow Book and call up those manufacturers that
have compliant label printing systems.

I frequently have the need to create rating plates (or other labels) in
very low quantities. Obviously if you need hundreds or thousands of
labels there are manufacturers ready to provide them. What about these
low quantities? Does anyone have a recommendation. Perhaps a label with
a clear adhesive overlay, or something that can be used in a Lazer
printer? What about special typewriter inks. It seems to me that with
our present technology, we would have capabilities beyond typing these
labels. All comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
