Urgent, please see the attached request from the IEEE PSTC Mike DeMatrini Awards Committee and nominate your colleagues. Nominee's submittal form
(enclosed) is due January 30, 1998. Santa Clara Product Safety Technical Committee (PSTC), January 27& February 24, 1998 Meeting Notices Please mark you calendar and join us for the following meetings: List-Post: [email protected] Date: January 27, 1998 Time: 7:00 p.m. Topic: "Organization" of safeguards against electric shock Speaker: Mr. Rich Nute Location: Hewlett Packard, 19447 Prunridge Ave. Cupertino CA, Bldg. 48, Oakroom PRESENTATION: Rich will be talking about an "organization" of safeguards against electric shock. We all know about grounding and double-insulation and similar schemes. I will show that there are three primary schemes for protection against electric shock. Two of the three primary schemes need no mitigators, while one has six mitigators. Rich will discuss the primary schemes and their mitigators in some detail. Rich is not presenting anything new, technically. Rather, he is presenting an organization -- a way of thinking -- about the necessary constructions that provide protection against electric shock. SPEAKER: Mr. Nute is a graduate of Cal Poly (San Luis Obsipo). He has worked as a manufacturing engineer, a component engineer, a R&D engineer, and most of his career as a product safety engineer for T&M, IT, and some medical equipment. He has sat on numerous safety and standards committees and have contributed to various safety standards. Rich writes the "Technically Speaking" column in the Product Safety Newsletter, and help manage the IEEE EMC-PSTC listserver. He is currently studying ignition of plastic material by electric energy. If there is interest, he could talk about this, too. DINNER: If you are interested in joining the speaker for dinner at El Torito's (by Vallco Fashion Park at Wolfe and Hwy 280), it will be at 5:30 p.m. RSVP to Kamran Mohajer. List-Post: [email protected] Date: February 24, 1998 Time: 7:00 p.m. Topic: SEMI S2 Speaker: Mr. Andrew McIntyre Location: Hewlett Packard, 19447 Prunridge Ave. Cupertino CA, Bldg. 48, Oakroom PRESENTATION: Mr. Andrew McIntyre of Global Semiconductor Safety Services (GS3) has volunteered to be the speaker on the topic of SEMI S2 on February 24th PSTC meeting. SPEAKER: Andy McIntyre is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and is one of the more recognized semiconductor safety professional in the semiconductor industry. GS3 (a joint venture between ETL and EORM) is probably the most recognized S2 assessing body in the semiconductor industry and has already conducted numerous S2 training to a number of semiconductor equipment manufacturers. Should you need a map, please get in touch with me and I will be happy to send you one. Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting. Also, If you are interest in a topic please let me know. We still have a few opening for next year's presentations. Kamran Mohajer, M.S. Product Safety Technical Committee (PSTC)
January 16, 1998
To: PSTC Participants
From: SCV - PSTC Award Committee
Last year the SCV - PSTC implemented an award for the Product Safety
professionals called Mike DeMartini Award. Last year's award included only
local nominees. However, this year we are extending this award to include
nominees within the state of California. Now we are soliciting nominees for
the second annual De Martini Award.
Before we go into details, here is some background information about the
program.
The award program was established:
1. As a memorial to Michael J. DeMartini who contributed a great deal to
product safety.
2. To recognize others who like Mike have contributed significantly to product
safety.
3. To encourage participation in various product safety related activities.
Product Safety related activities that may be recognized by the award include
but are not limited to safety of products, standards development, IEEE Product
Safety Technical Committee support, Safety related research,
publication/communication of safety concepts, safety education, certification,
safety test equipment and procedures.
Only current IEEE members may nominate an award candidate. However, membership
in the IEEE is not required to be an award nominee. Nominees must be living in
California and working in the product safety field or a field closely
associated with product safety. Each nominee submittal will be judged by the
Awards Committee according to the six criteria indicated on the following
Submittal Form.
Nominations are to be submitted using the attached form which may be faxed,
mailed e-mailed or submitted at the January 27, 1998 meeting of the SCV - PSTC.
All Nominee Submittal Forms and supporting documents are due no later than
January 30, 1998.
The presentation of the award will take place at the February 24, 1998 meeting
of the Santa Clara Valley PSTC during Engineer's Month.
Get your nomination forms in now!
Respectfully,
PSTC Awards Committee
