Jim:
I have used thermal strippers with excellent results for PVC insulated
hookup wire, with strip lengths between 1/8" and 2". But thermal is useless for
teflon and kapton insulations. I seem to remember doing nylon, but I also think
I had problems with the stripped insulation tube sticking to the hot wire jaws,
causing a stinky, yucky mess after a while.
My eventual best choice for medical grade nylon wire stripping was a
Eubanks mechanical blade stripper. This system feeds the wire, clamps it, drops
a precision cutter blade through the insulation almost onto the wire, and then
retracts the cutter blade, pulling off the insulation tube. You can adjust the
wire length and the strip length at each end. The system will run till your
wire runs out. The negatives are that you need a custom blade set for each wire
type that you strip, and that machine setup is somewhat finicky. Also a bit
noisy since the machine uses pneumatic clamps and pull cylinders.
