Where can we get a list of "permitted items"?
Rick Towner, Regulatory Compliance Manager, Comdisco, Inc. ---------- |From: Martin Garwood |To: RCTOWNER; treg |Subject: ACA deals with Austel permits |Date: Wednesday, April 15, 1998 12:02AM | |As days go by the situation regarding Austel permits becomes slightly |more clear. The current opinion coming from the ACA (to be told to |people on the 28th of this month in Melb) is the following. | |1) If you have permitted items (inc CCLÆs) that are already manufactured |(in Australia) or imported, you may continue to sell them for as long as |you like, unhindered. | |2) If you intend to import or manufacture permitted items after June 30 |1998, you have several paths. | |If the items were not tested to Austel TS001 or equivalent for safety |(Telecom permitted items are a good example), these items need to be |tested to the current ACA TS001 which included AS/NZS3260 amendmentÆs |1-4. Once this compliant report is placed in your compliance folder |that has been returned from the ACA, you need to sign a form saying you |will continue to sell the equipment under the terms given when you |originally received the permit. You must continue to label the equipment |with the old permit #. The ACA are currently making this form and assure |us it will be available in the next 2 months. | |If the permitted item was tested to an old TS001, the ACA will draw up a |matrix of old TS001 versions in comparison to the new one. If nothing |has changed or the current ACA TS001 has not become more onerous than |the one your equipment was tested to, you can place the matrix along |with the same attestation mentioned above in your folder. Once again, |you must continue to label equipment with the old permit or telecom |authorisation number. | |If you wish to modify the permitted item, or wish to mark the item with |the new A-Tick mark due to marketing or client pressures, you must |comply to the new ACA version of the applicable standards. One method of |demonstrating compliance is to have the equipmentÆs reports examined by |a certification body (such as myself in Australia or thru BABT in the |UK) to determine any differences in versions of all applicable standards |(this does not just apply to TS001) . | |In short, the compliance statement/ certification body route to label a |product with the A-Tick mark can provide an economical alternative to |full compliance re-testing. | |A certification body can also issue a compliance statement where, in |itÆs opinion, a recognised testing authority has incorrectly interpreted |a requirement of a standard. An otherwise lengthy process of obtaining |an interpretation from the standards writers can be circumvented by this |arrangement. | |Regards |-- |Martin Garwood, Manager, |Austest-BABT Certification Services |Ground Floor, 35 Alleyne Street Chatswood NSW 2067 AUSTRALIA |ph: 61-2-9882 6500 fax: 61-2-9882 6600 |http://www.austest.com.au | | | | | | | |Reuben Medding wrote: |> |> Dear Ron, |> |> TS 100 is the document which ACA used to effect grandfathering of the |> existing permits issued by Austel and its predecessor prior to 30 June |> 1997, it therefore applies to all types of customer equipment.
