This thread has highlighted a growing trend world wide. IEC950 is tending to be specified by many network providers, and in some cases regulators, for applications which appear not to be with in the scope of the standard. However as there is to my knowledge no applicable international standard for network equipment, with the world wide deregulation of the supply of telecommunications services this appears to be an issue.
This is a serious problem for suppliers of access equipment where the equipment may be network equipment, customer premises installed equipment of even customer supplied equipment depending on the country of application. Currently there are no answers to some of the issues raised. On Wed, 29 Apr 1998, Victor L.
