TREGers, Does anyone know of a document, annex to a document, or application note which might discuss the connection of analog LS/GS product to a "protected port" of a PBX when that product is not approved for PSTN use in a given country? I realize this will vary by country depending on the performance requirements and the capabilities or protection afforded by the PBX. I'm only concerned with the telecom compliance portion, the safety and EMC issues are very clear (to me).
I do understand the rationale used when either companies or customers put equipment which does not have a PSTN attachment approval into service behind a PBX. I have not been able to find any official information in writing to support this rationale however. Anyone know if anything in writing exists either in general or country specific? I've been told in the past that this is a gray area by some test labs and agencies. This often indicates that interpretations have been made, it's general practice, and nobody has complained so it continues! I'm also not sure how the PBX manufacturers feel about having to clean up after possibly non-compliant equipment and how they document a "protected" analog port. Maybe a PBX manufacturer could comment on "protected" versus "unprotected" ports and if there are different levels of protection (safety, telecom, etc.).
