There are hybrid transformers in the central office and in the telephone.
In the telephone 2 wires from the transmitter and 2 wires from the receiver
are fed
into a transformer that gives a two-wire output to the line. At the
central office, where
separate transmit and receive paths must be established, the reverse
happens.

The real art of telephony lies in the balancing of these transmission
paths.

However, for that course, we charge.
