Yep, what Craig said, except for the part about being happy with things
before the ROM upgrade. I was never able to satisfactorily install my
applications to the SD card; now I don't have to (except D2T, which has its
own way of doing that) because the memory block size was reduced. I have
experienced many fewer resets since the ROM update; now down to about 2 a
week, or so. The only software incompatibility I've experienced ever was
last night when RMRDiet just simply reset the Treo every time it started; I
don't care about that since I never used the program anyway, but was just
wanting to test it out. I have a friend with a Cingular 650 who had a
terrible time with the volume problem - used to set it on speakerphone and
hold it up to his ear to hear it; now with the ROM update he has to turn the
volume down sometimes. I use VolumeCare and have the same "issue"!!

I use a Bluetooth headset. I tried the Parrot whatever car kit (the one you
don't install, but just plug in) and thought it was awful. Neat idea,
though. Just poor sound quality. Others have been OK with it. My
Bluetooth headset works well and is very functional. Only problem is
battery life, but I just plug it in when it runs out of battery and go back
to a wired headset until it's ready. That works OK for me; it's unrealistic
to expect a teeny headset to have battery life comparable to the Treo's
"talk time", I guess.

One other thing that's great about the 650 is the ability (due to
non-volatile memory) to swap batteries. Great for travel. It's also nice
to know that I won't lose anything if the battery does run out.

I'd say upgrade!! The 650 is the best smartphone out there, and among the
best palm devices ever made. If it had Bluetooth and more memory and wifi
and was just a teeny bit more stable it'd be perfect!

Cheers,

Don

Subject: Re: [Treo] Would you upgrade to a Treo 650 now?

I was happy with my 650 *before* the ROM update, now I'm simply overjoyed.
Not only is it as stable as my 600 was, the added functionality of a
high-res screen, faster processor, usable camera, etc., etc. really make a
difference (to me). I've found very, very few software incompatibilities on
apps I care about (I have about 60 loaded on my 650). I get a random soft
reset maybe once a week. No big deal, really...that was what I've lived with

since getting my first Pilot (and no worse than what I experienced with my
600). ;-) I think it greatly depends on how adventurous your 3rd party app
use is (I try out lots of beta software, so many of them probably aren't due

to the 650). No experience with car kits, sorry.
