Card Reader seemed much faster. As for having it run when connecting, you might need some sort of 3rd party app to do that. Certainly, CR can be configured to connect automatically when it's launched. Also, it's just the app on the Palm. For some reason, I remember CE requiring something on the PC as well to make the connection.
