I've searched around trying to find an answer, and I'm hoping someone
will have a hint for this non-Treo question:
I have a 2Gb thumb drive and a 512Mb thumbdrive. On my laptop
(Inspiron 6000), the 2g shows as Drive K. The 512 shows as Drive M. If
I put an SD card in the slot it appears as E. If I stick a CF card in
the PCMCIA adaptor slot, it also shows as E. (I should try them
simultaneously to see what they do.)
Here it comes: on the PC at work, the 2Gb thumb drive shows as F,
BUT THE 512 doesn't show at all. The comptuer beeps, and the device
manager says all the USB ports are working fine, but the darn drive in
inaccessible. I sat a while ago and went through trying to log to each
drive letter, not already assigned, and zip, nada, nothing.
I've seen this problem elsewhere. I've seen an SD that works in
one computer not be usable in another. USB slots on the back of the
computer work with one device but not another, and the USB ports on
the front of the machine work the other way.
Anybody got any idea what the problem is, and what to do about it?
It's driving me up a wall, especially last night when I forgot to take
my 2g to work with me and tried to use the 512 to sneaker-net some
files into the company system and the darn desktop machine wouldn't
display the drive.
