Welcome, Larry, to the infamous Treo "headset jack failure."  What has
happened is the little switch inside the headset jack that tells the
Treo that you have a headset attached has failed and the Treo
permanently thinks a headset is plugged in.  There is no fix you can
do; the phone must be professionally repaired or replaced (unless
you're happy always using a headset).  I suspect that this happens a
_lot_ as my relatively new 700p is already hinting at this problem and
it's only 2 months old.
