My 600 had this happen to it all the time, after taking the headset out, I'd
tap the bottom of the unit on a hard surface and the switch would activate.

With the 700 having Bluetooth, I haven't had the same issue.

Of course do this at your own risk.....

Welcome, Larry, to the infamous Treo "headset jack failure." What has
happened is the little switch inside the headset jack that tells the
Treo that you have a headset attached has failed and the Treo
permanently thinks a headset is plugged in. There is no fix you can
do; the phone must be professionally repaired or replaced (unless
you're happy always using a headset). I suspect that this happens a
_lot_ as my relatively new 700p is already hinting at this problem and
it's only 2 months old.
