Do you have a utility like Phone Technician or ProfileCare
installed?  Or some other program that controls the cellular
radio or resets the device automatically??  If not, then you
should hard reset to clear everything out and keep it that
way for a while.  If the problem happens again with a clean
device, then it is a hardware problem and you should return
it for a replacement.
