I would buy an extra housing for the 680 (ebay), and try to drill a hole
into it neatly - or some similar technique.  Use the spare housing for
practice.  If it works, use that case with a lanyard.  If it doesn't,
you can resort back to your other case.

680 does not have the possibility to attach a lanyard to.
You would have to use something which acts as sort of case first and
then
has an attachment for a lanyard.
