Hmmmmmmmmmm. All this talk of Palm's demise continues. A friend and business associate, who was forced to use a Moto-Q for a year, just a few days ago literally threw it up in the air as high as he could and watched it land on the concrete, with great satisfaction. He bought a Treo 755p (Verizon) and called me yesterday and said he was a very happy camper! He set up is office's Exchange server to push email, contacts and calendar to it in about 30 seconds, and everything else just works!
Spin can become reality, though, so I really do hope Palm's Linux machine is good enough to stop all the negative talk. The iPhone is a great, if simplistic and limited, device. It ties one to AT&T, though, and does not (last I checked) support business class email of any kind. Because it's AT&T, I could only get EDGE speed here in the Denver area. I've been spoiled by Sprintspeed! I believe I could connect my laptop through the device to get online in locations lacking a wifi connection. Hopefully the amazing user interface and screen technology of the iPhone will kick all manufacturers in the hindquarters and we'll see more amazing displays and UIs emerge to compete on platforms that are more capable than the iPhone. Also perhaps the iPhone's ability to render HTML so well will be replicated on the new Palm platform. It is the 21st century, after all! I am VERY worried that Palm will include Chatter and Opera as the standard in the new machine. I've never had Chatter on a Treo for more than a day without removing it due to terrible instability (and yes, I know all the old arguments . . . it's some other piece of software's fault, blah blah blah. . .) and I find Opera far inferior to Blazer. Hopefully Palm will resolve these issues. Versamail on the Centro is, FINALLY, completely stable and very functional. Maybe if they beef up Opera enough it'll be OK too. Whatever they include as the browser, I hope it's as breathtaking as the browsing experience on the iPhone. Don't be fooled... if the next-gen PalmOS Linux "Treo" is a dud, Palm will not stay afloat for long. It's shrinking and focusing its efforts so it can survive. 2008 will be a very difficult year for them. Were it not for the 25% stake from "Elevation Partners" (or something like that) Palm may already have gone south... I still believe that Palm has the potential to bring an interesting device in 2009 because: - It will have the next generation of ChatterEmail built in, more powerful and more stable than ever (and ChatterEmail ALREADY is the best E-mail client there is) - It will have Opera Mobile built in, the best mobile browser there is - It will be PalmOS 5 backwards compatible, to a certain extent, allowing us to preserve most of our investment in software, and keep them useful until updates for the new platform are released (at reduced prices for most companies) - Except Apple, no one else gets the idea of a powerful device that is simple to use and gives you instant access to what you need - They are taking their time - They have an "Apple genius", one that was directly involved in creating the iPod and the Macbook lines, for example, working on the design []s Sandro Campos Mancini ----- Original Message ----- From: "L" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2008 7:41 AM Subject: [Treo] Another nail in the coffin? > http://www.electronista.com/articles/08/01/28/palm.shutters.most.stores/ >> > > > -- > ============================== > War Eagle
