1.  There IS a media tab on the desktop (version 6.2.2), so I don't
think the conduits will be a problem.  IAC, I move my photos to the SD
and then transfer from there.

2.  I too avoided Vista - Dell is going to be selling XP machines
until mid-year, I believe.

I'm still dithering.  The GUI for customizing a single hotsync is a
whole lot nicer in 7.0.2 than in 6.0.1, so I may try it - after
backing up my info. I can always dig out the CD.
