You're still not listening. It's not just the OS, it's the trackball!!!! There's not another device that has a trackball. I guess it's a blackberry patent. Otherwise everyone would have it as it is the best way to scroll or navigate than any other device out there.
I was a skeptic much like you until I said what the hell. I've tried just about everything else I now need to try a Blackberry. I held off because for the longest time they didn't really have 3rd party applications. Now they have facebook, HandBase, SplashPhoto, SplashID, MobiReader, and even an RPN scientific calculator.
