Hi: Short of flinging my 680 out of a fast moving car, I hope someone may have a solution for my crashing problem....
I've been using a palm of some type since the 90's, but with every newer palm OS it seems to be becoming less stable. I even traded in my 650 for a 680 in March hoping the crashing would stop. This Treo has the latest software updates from Palm. Problem: When I get 3 consecutive text messages from one specific phone number the Treo soft resets itself. It doesn't happen on other phone numbers nor past 3 messages. Even when I get a text from that number while I'm talking on the phone everything crashes. What I've tried to do to fix the problem: 1. Hard Reset & soft reset, many times. 2. Didn't use old backup. 3. Added 1 3rd party software at a time and removed it after each crash. Then added another and removed it. 4. Brought Safeguard. This told me it was Nexter that crashed, but not everytime. I didn't delete Nexter at any time. Sometimes Safeguard would show no crash activity after a crash. 5. Hard Reset and used the basic palm software that came with the Treo and nothing else. None of my Contacts, addresses, etc. 6. Returned the 680 to AT&T and got another 680. Crashing continued. 7. Changed my SD memory card. Removed the 4 GB and replaced it with a 1 GB. 8. Read someplace to change all all Mobile numbers (M) that appear first under a persons name to another designation (Home, Other, etc) in the Contacts list. 9. Deleted that specific phone number from my contacts. 10. Reentered that specific phone number. 11. SIM card numbers don't appear in my Contact and even removed the specific phone number from my SIM card. 12. Changed my Address Book to DateBk6. 13. Brought DbFixit to repair any old DB issues. Solutions? 1. Is Nexter the problem? Delete? Replace? 2. New Contact software? 3. Replace SMS software? 4. Get a new SIM card? 5. I find it hard to believe the offending phone number is transmitting the reset like a mild version of a KillPill. 6. Is there a sequence of numbers that can be sent by SMS to reset a Treo? 7. I know the sms has to touch the Contacts list. Could it be that the culmination of all my Contacts from previous Palm's has come back to bite me? Any suggestions would be appreciated! I don't want to go to the Microsoft platform if it can be avoided. Jeff Guide
