Someone who generally has good info said he heard the Pre would have a
microSD slot, but my guess is that he actually heard/read that it
would have a "microUSB" connector instead.

The Pre looks awesome...I will absolutely be getting one...but I'm
disappointed on three points so far:
- lack of a built-in Palm OS compatibility/translation layer
- lack of external storage
- lack of video recording (which I use a lot).

Of those 3, I expect the last one to be resolved before launch
(although neither iPhone nor the G1 had it at launch...wtf is this
one-step-backward thing?) and a solution to the first one to be
offered by someone shortly after launch. The second one, however,
greatly disappoints me, as I'm constantly swapping out my Treo's SD
card for various uses (e.g., demoing a camera in a store, a quick file
transfer among camera/laptop/phone/PC, external backup of my phone's
system every night, etc., etc.). Losing that will hurt, but then it's
becoming clear that only my laptop and my camera will have full-sized
SD slots in the future, so the flash format consistency across all my
devices I've enjoyed the past couple of years is going to hell in a
handbasket anyway.
