I rather unexpectedly do not miss the 5 way at all. The gesture concept is very powerful, and some of it is done under the screen, where the 5 way used to be. I can also use the Pre one-handed just as well as the Treo, maybe more so, even opening and closing the keyboard, and a lot can be done without ever opening the keyboard. I would say almost all of maneuvering can be done with just the thumb, with the Pre resting on the fingers. Sure, it has to go across the whole screen, but the Pre is smaller and lighter than my 700p, and is much easier to handle.

The more I think about how I use my Treo/Centro, the more I'm worried about not having a D-pad. I really *like* being able to do 90% of what I need to do with just slight thumb movements. Having to move my fingers all over the screen all the time may get old quickly. I hope not, but that's my fear.
